Positive Psychology focuses on the empirical study of positive emotions, strengths-based character, and healthy institutions.
Research has demonstrated that it is possible to be happier to feel more satisfied, to be more engaged with life, find more meaning, have higher hopes, and probably even laugh and smile more, regardless of ones circumstances.
Positive psychology interventions can also lastinly decrease depression symptoms. The research underlying these rigorously tested interventions is presented in the July/August 2005 edition of the American Psychologist, the journal of the American Psychology Association.
Some of the ideas and concepts of thoughts and ideas have also come from Cognitive Therapy and even Buddhism. Dr Marty Seligman was also trained in Cognitive approaches in Philadelphia by Dr Aaron Becks. It is inevitable such Cognitive training would have percolated Positive Psychology too.
